Today at worship service we talked about the above subject of this blog :) Basically "Where is God calling me to serve?"
To break it down I thought that writing what we learned today might give a better idea of where this is going...
"Can you hear me now?"
1 Samuel 3:1-10
1. Calling vs. Career
A career is something I choose for myself, a calling is something I do for God.
A career may end with retirement, but a calling isn't over until you die.
A career promises wealth, security, power, and status, a calling often involves sacrifice and fear.
2. Discerning the call
Begin by assessing your gifts and abilities.
Consider you heart and your personality.
Examine your experiences and extract the lessons you have learned.
3. A life mission statement
Write out a statement that summarizes God's mission for your life.
Determine a strategy needed in order to carry out God's mission for your life.
Define what "success" means for you regarding your mission.
My Reflections/Thoughts from this...
*Never too old for our calling :)
*Psychology - Men usually die after retirement - if they listen to their calling will they die since they are continuing to have a "purpose" in life?
*Consider your heart...where is that we get excited/passion in life?
*"Changing lives and working in the ministry"
*"Need to have Passion and Zeal"
This all comes down to where does God want me headed in life?
So what does this mean to you?
ReplyDeleteCareer calling? what is yours and where do they line up? where do you you find yourself?
Tell me I want to know!!!
You are so funny, well I think I have to work backwards a little. I believe that the gifts God has given me is that I am very artsy. I can paint, draw, sing, act and dance. I love entertaining people and making them smile. I love being able to talk to people and hear what they have to say, listening to their stories, teaching them and just making them see how beautiful the simple things in life are :) I believe that is along the lines of my calling and I think my career of wanting to be a dance therapist coincides with my calling, but my pastor did say that sometimes your calling doesn't have to be the same as your career. It's almost like having to put on two different masks, you are one way this way and different another way. But if that's how it is then that's how it is, I think that both my career and calling tie in together very well :)
ReplyDeleteDo you have any thoughts my dear? What about you?
